Guide to our Appointments System

Who do I see?

For information on how best to be seen at the Surgery, select the service or condition you require.

If you require a call back from a GP in the morning please ring between 8.00-11.00.
For a call back in the afternoon please ring between 1.30 – 4.30.

Anything in-between these times is for urgent requests only and will be dealt with by the Duty Doctor and possibly not the doctor of your choice.

If you are unable to ring during these times, you may like to use the askmy GP option where you can give a brief description of your symptoms and a GP will contact you either by telephone or email.

On the day you have a medical problem, ring us in the usual way and our reception staff will take your name, best telephone number to contact you on and ask you in confidence what is the nature of your problem.

The doctor will then call as soon as possible, usually within the hour or at a specified time if more convenient for you. If you have a preferred doctor, please ring on a day that they are working and when possible they will ring you back.

The doctor will discuss the problem with you and work out what to do next. You may want advice, or a prescription, or you may need to come in.

The doctor will arrange an appointment if you need to be seen. Usually this will be the same day, but you can ask for a later day if this is more convenient e.g. to fit around work/allow time to arrange transport to the surgery.

You do not need to ring early, if possible then avoid the rush and ring later as you may find there is a quicker response time later on.

There will be no need to arrive at reception requesting an appointment as you will be rung back in the same way.

Appointments to see our practice nurses e.g. for dressings, smoking cessation, blood tests, chronic disease reviews will be booked through reception as they are currently.

Appointment Reminders

St Chad’s and Chilcompton Surgeries offer the facility to text you as a reminder for your appointment.

We do not assume that you are happy to receive a text message as a reminder, you will need to tell us you are happy to enrol in this service.

We all change our mobile telephone numbers periodically, but please don’t forget to tell us!

Your mobile telephone number will not be shared with any other person or organisation.
Please speak to a receptionist who will be happy to take your details and sign you up for reminders by text.
